Postgraduate studies correspond to the area of doctoral studies. The objective of doctoral studies is that students recieve advanced training in research techniques, which should include the development and presentation of a doctoral  dissertation, this being an original research project. The completion of these studies entitles the student to be awarded a doctorate, which is the most advanced level within higher education.
